Weathering steel principle

After adding trace elements such as phosphorus, copper, chromium, and nickel to the steel, a dense and strong protective film is formed on the surface of the steel, which prevents the diffusion and development of rust and protects the substrate under the rust layer to slow its corrosion rate. The amorphous spinel oxide layer about 50μm~100μm thick formed between the rust layer and the substrate is dense and has good adhesion to the substrate metal. Due to the presence of this dense oxide film, it prevents oxygen and The penetration of water into the steel matrix slows down the development of rust to the steel material and greatly improves the ability of the steel material to resist atmospheric corrosion. Weathering steel is a steel system that can be used for thinning, bare use or simplified coating, which can make products corrosion-resistant and prolong life, save labor and reduce consumption, and upgrade. Weathering steel manufacturing process

Weathering steel generally adopts the process routes of concentrate feeding into furnace-smelting (converter, electric furnace-microalloying treatment-argon blowing-LF refining-low superheat continuous casting (feeding rare earth wire)-controlled rolling and controlled cooling. The scrap steel is added into the furnace along with the charge and smelted according to the conventional process. After tapping, the deoxidizer and alloy are added. After the molten steel is processed by argon blowing, the cast steel is immediately cast. Rare earth elements are added to the steel, the weathering steel is purified, and the content of inclusions is greatly reduced.
